Mrs. Goodale's class
WEEK IN REVIEW
UPDATE: April 24, 2008

Notes:
This week marks the half way point in the third trimester. Please take a minute to check the Power School web page for an update on your student’s progress. We are presently scheduling Parent-Teacher Conferences. Conference times are posted on the classroom doors. If you would like to meet with a teacher, stop by and sign up. If you can’t make any of the times listed, contact the teacher directly and schedule a mutually convenient meeting time.

Next week is May Day Week. The May Day performance and celebration is on Thursday, May 1. There will be some rehearsal times during the school day this week. Friday, 5/2, is Adventure #4. Some core classes will meet only once or twice next week because of this schedule.

ALGEBRA 1a:
We have been working on “inequalities” this week. The students have learned to solve simple and compound inequalities. We spent some time reviewing and then the students took a Section Quiz on Lessons 6.1-6.3. We will move into “absolute value” inequalities for next week.

PHOTOSYNTHESIS – aka, Botany:
The students presented their Power Pt. projects on beverages made from plants. They included information about plant itself, what part of the plant is processed to make the beverage and how it is processed. The students also gave us a little history about the beverage. The class also studied the chemical process called Photosynthesis and performed an experiment to test the rate of photosynthesis depending upon temperature. We didn’t quite finish, so we will wrap this experiment up next week. Next week we will have only 1 day of class because of May Day practice, the May Day

THAR SHE BLOWS…. – aka, The biology of Marine Mammals:
We started our study of whales this week with an overview of the biology of whales in general. We covered the special adaptations that whales have made over millions of years to equip them for a totally aquatic existence. The students also turned in their notes and references for their next Power Pt. project on the whale or dolphin of their choice.

NATURE CRAFTS:
The students learned how to collect a spider web and preserve it as “art”. They turned out beautiful. Ask them how they captured a spider web.

Sincerely,

Donna R. Goodale
